What is Expansion?

About the course

This workshop on Expansion Brainspotting will help attendees understand how important Expansion Brainspotting is in alleviating the profound suffering of our most vulnerable clients as well as facilitating higher performance and strengthening desired states of being. With lecture, step by step instructions, case presentations, demonstrations, practicums, and easy to use hand-outs; attendees will learn how to effectively use Expansion Brainspotting with the majority of their clients with exponentially more effective results.

Educational Goals

At the end of this course, participants will understand how important Expansion BSP is in alleviating the profound suffering of our most vulnerable clients. They will experience the infinite and transcendent healing power of Expansion Brainspots versus the less potent available with Body Resourcing. Participants will be able to facilitate higher levels of functioning in their clients, improve performance in daily life, and strengthen self-worth and desired states of being for their clients. This course will reinforce that Expansion Brainspots strengthen positive neural networks and can fast-forward the changes wanted most. With over 14 frames taught in this course, while practicing three or more frames during class, participants will be able to use Expansion Brainspotting effectively with the majority of their clients.

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will review concepts from Brainpotting Phase 1, such as two critical core concepts (tail of the comet
and WAIT) and three symptoms of clients who are stuck on or stuck off (FFFF).

  2. Participants will be able to distinguish between the three types of Brainspotting (Activated, Resource, Expansion).

  3. Participants will be able to identify the three times Expansion Spots are indicated.

  4. Participants will identify three types of clients who might benefit from Expansion Brainspotting.

  5. Participants will evaluate the importance of resources in a client’s life, determine how to distinguish between fragile and well-resourced clients, and be able to give three examples of positive resources.

  6. Participants will discuss reasons how and why spirituality can be used in Expansion to help heal trauma.

  7. Participants will be able to infer two ways that Expansion can get better outcomes for their clients with less suffering by understanding how being in a regulated state applies.

  8. Participants will be able to utilize the seven steps of setting up the Basic Expansion Frame in practicum.

  9. Understand three additional Expansion Frames for Double Spotting (Healing Overeating/ Other Bad Habits, Truth
and Lie Double Spotting for Negative Cognitions, and Healing Social Anxiety).
  10. Participants will be able to give examples of three phases they could use to help their client expand in their thinking
    during a session.
  11. Participants will differentiate between negative and positive cognitions and determine how to use this in an Expansion session.
  12. Participants will be able to apply the ten steps of Double Spotting with Activated and Expansion Spots together
through practicum to deprogram lies that breed shame and self-loathing.
  13. Participants will be able to classify the different frames into the three categories of Expansion Brainspotting
    (Basic, Double Spotting, and Performance).
  14. Participants will be able to define the YIPS, consider that performance injuries are both physical and emotional, and
list at least five people that would benefit from Performance Expansion.
  15. Participants will explore thirteen ideas to do effective Performance Expansion frames.
  16. Participants will practice using eight Intake Questions to ask clients to find Expansion goals.
  17. Participants will role play the steps of at least one Performance Expansion frame during practicum.
