Informed Consent for Brainspotting Trainings

During Brainspotting Phase One and Two trainings, you will have the opportunity to both witness and practice four different live Brainspotting sessions. While this teaching style allows for a deeper and more hands-on learning experience, the sensitive nature of the work may become triggering for many. Because the demonstrations and practicums are an essential part of the learning process, we hope that sharing some reminders for self-care will help aid everyone in having a successful weekend of learning and healing.

Our tips for our attendees throughout the weekend:

  1. Drink lots of water.
  2. Get up and move around at least once an hour.
  3. Move your body as needed, especially during the demonstrations.
  4. Self-resource and ground with whatever tools you normally utilize.
  5. Take each break and lunch for yourself as time to rejuvenate.
  6. After each day, be intentional with turning off "training mode" and do some self-care or spend time with loved ones.
  7. If possible, don’t book too many work-related things for the Monday after training, to give yourself a day to decompress.
  8. If practicums present as too difficult, find a solution that would allow you to still participate, perhaps by choosing a topic to work on that has a lower activation level, or asking to be an observer if you truly don't feel you are able to participate.

Furthermore, if you know that doing a training can be difficult on your nervous system, consider participating in your own Brainspotting session(s) before the training to better prepare you for the work you will be doing. And, of course, please know that you can always utilize our assistants during the training, as each has been where you are and can give you further suggestions to have a successful training. Happy healing and learning. We look forward to sharing the experience with you!
