Acknowledging Juneteenth

Acknowledging Juneteenth

Dear all,

It is important for me to take a moment to recognize Juneteenth today, a day dedicated to the recognition, restoration, and celebration of African Americans.

This day also signifies the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and serves as a reminder of the resilience and perseverance of the Black community in the face of systemic oppression and adversity throughout history.

As mental health professionals, it is imperative that we understand and recognize the profound historical traumas faced by the Black community, from slavery, to segregation, to ongoing systemic injustices. It is not only today, but everyday, that we must commit ourselves to the ongoing pursuit of equality, including the promotion of mental health resources and support for Black individuals and communities.

Please join me this Juneteenth to reflect on ways in which we can promote healing and wellness within our communities, workplaces, and relationships.

Kind regards,

Lisa Larson, LMFT
